MCE appeals for calm

The Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Felix Obeng Forson, has appealed to people engaging in violent clashes in the municipality to stop and allow law enforcement agencies to deal with the offenders. He said this after leading some security personnel and government officials to visit those who were wounded during the clash at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital on Monday. The clash started after some people had beaten to death one Mamud Iddrisu who was accused of using a knife to threaten people at a drinking bar at Agona Swedru on December 26. According to the Agona Swedru police, after the burial of Iddrisu, the Muslim youth organised themselves and in retaliation attacked some beer bars and destroyed several properties in the town. Two people, Mamud Iddrisu and Kwame Acheampong, died and six people were wounded. Mr Forson appealed to community leaders in the municipality to calm their followers to ensure peace in the area. The municipality is now calm and military and police personnel are patrolling the municipality.
