"Without Gospel Music, There's No Music Industry" Ohemaa Mercy

Whenever a question is asked on what Gospel Music entails, many people have their own interpretations; while others say that the mention of GOD or the supreme being qualifies a song to be classified under the gospel music genre, other interpretation dwell on the message that the song projects. But for Ohemaa Mercy, gospel music is the kind that inspires people, draws people to the word of God and directly tells the mind of God to his people. Speaking on TV Africas Daybreak, Ohemaa Mercy unequivocally stated that without gospel music there will be no music industry in Ghana, stressing that gospel music holds the core grip of the industry simply because of the many ways by which it appeals to people. Asked what she could change about the music industry, she said re-packaging of the gospel music currently in Ghana. She decried the low level of enthusiasm and patronage of gospel shows by the public, revealing that she was once invited to a gospel awards show and to her utmost surprise, the venue was virtually empty. The gospel diva also blamed event organizers for what is currently prevailing in the gospel music industry. She pleaded with event organizers to allow them (gospel artistes) to rehearse spiritually and professionally with their band when they (gospel artistes) are invited to shows put together by these event organizers instead of the usual catch phrase theyre told each time, Just go out there and do something. Ohemaa Mercy is currently out with her new album titled Wo be ye kese and hopes to celebrate her 5th year in the industry with a nationwide tour.
