NHIS Suspends 15 Service Providers

15 service providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Volta and Brong-Ahafo Regions have been suspended. They have been accused of overpayment of claims, inefficient use of funds, improper procurement procedures and irrational or inappropriate prescription. This follows an audit into the activities of the NHIS in the two Regions. At a press soiree organized yesterday, an audit report read by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Sylvester Mensah, revealed that over 7 staff members who were also found to have engaged in malfeasance practices, have been interdicted, while 4 people have been handed over to the police for further investigations. The statement further revealed that 6 facilities (Hospital) have also been reported to the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service for proper sanctions. �In the North-Tongu MHIS for instance the scheme Manager, Mr. Isaac Fenu and the Accountant, Mr. Simon Goka, colluded with the Hospital Accountant of the Adidome Government Hospital and defraud the scheme and the hospital of an amount of GH� 7000.00�they also failed to account for GH� 27,836.00,� he revealed. He further disclosed that �Adaklu- Anyigbe MHIS also had three 3 of the scheme officers, namely Mr. Raybon Evans Anyadi, Mr. Jerry Agbanu and Mr. Bright Nyatsikor embezzling an amount of GH� 28,537.73, whiles in the Brong Ahafo, GH� 52,750.00 was inefficiently used and a total of GH� 57,932.13 was overpaid to the following service providers: Emil Memorial Hospital, Wenchi Methodist Hospital, Subinso Health Centre, Nyaase Royal Maternity Home and Droboso Clinic.�
