John Boadu, the acting general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the party supported the purchase of the 275 buses spearheaded by the acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay.
Mr. Blay has procured 275 buses for all NPP constituency offices across the country, ahead of the party’s national delegates congress; a move some have described as 'vote buying'
John Boadu speaking in an interview on UTV and Peace FM from Koforidua, Friday, debunked allegation that the buses were to convince delegates to vote for Mr Blay; adding it was to help the various constituencies.
“The party got involved…we supported and other stakeholders also got involved. Mr. Blay is the head of the party. If he brings an idea and it benefits the NPP, we have to support. So it wasn’t Freddie Blay alone; we were all involved” he indicated.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, is investigating Mr. Blay over how he funded the purchase of 275 buses for all 275 constituencies of the party.
Mr. Blay, who facilitated the purchase of the minibuses, is reported to have made a down payment of 3 million dollars, which constitutes 30 percent of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars for the 275 cars.
NPP National Delegates Conference
The NPP is having its national delegates conference in Koforidua in the Eastern Region this weekend.
About Six thousand delegates are expected at the event which will start from July 6 - 8, 2018.
The first day, Friday, July 6, 2018, will be for Muslim Jummah prayers at the Koforidua Central Mosque as well as some social events that will take place in the evening.
On Saturday, July 7, 2018 is for the main conference which will be held at the school park of the Koforidua Technical University.
On Sunday, a thanksgiving service will be held at the Jesus Temple of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Koforidua.
The theme chosen is “Building a Stronger Party; Delivering Prosperity to Ghanaians.”
