Freddie Blay Is A Dictator - Dr. Amoako Baah

Aspiring New Patriotic Party chairman, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has accused Mr Freddie Blay of hijacking the party, describing him as a dictator.

He claimed Mr. Blay who has been acting as the National Chairman of the NPP for the past three years, has been using the party’s resources without recourse to proper authorization and running the party singlehandedly.

Dr. Baah’s comment on 3FM Thursday followed allegation of vote buying by Freddie Blay with the purchase of some 275 buses for the NPP at the constituency level.

“Which constituency or party delegate met him and said they wanted buses? Who in the party gave him the authority to do what he is doing, is it the steering committee? This is the beginning of corruption and personal rule and this leads to dictatorship,” he said.

“You do not know whether it is his own money or the party’s money. Even if it is the party’s money as sometimes he claims, who gave him the authority? Is he the steering committee or the only person on the stirring committee?” Dr. Baah asked

In his view, it is inappropriate for Freddie Blay who is also contesting for the party’s chairmanship position, to take decisions without consulting the party’s stirring committee.

“We should never allow this to happen in the NPP. This is Danquah-Busia tradition, and we make the laws work. What he is doing is CPP tradition; that is what Nkrumah did and if he wants to do that, he should go and do it somewhere else,” Dr. Baah said.

He argued the NPP is not a private institution where one can do what he or she prefers, adding, the NPP as a party is guided by rules and regulations which ought to be adhered to.

Dr. Baah accused Freddie Blay of monetising elections in the country instead of developing the party to be financially sufficient.

He expressed shock over the extent to which Saturday’s election has been monetised, adding that if Freddie Blay had done a good job in his capacity as acting Chairman of the NPP, he would not have to resort to influencing people to vote for him to retain his position.

“They have monetized this election. It means the vote is sold to the highest bidder, and this is not democracy. It means you have reduced democracy, because you need someone who can work for the party to have its own money,” he contended

According to Dr. Baah, he is confident he will emerge as Chairman of the NPP on Saturday July, stating that the delegates will vote for him based on his work and contribution towards the party.

“Indeed I am winning the election, and you will be shocked. Let us wait and see what happens,” he said.

“This election is not like the general election. This is intra party election; it is the party delegates, and they know who we are. So I do not have to go round making noise for them to know who I am or what I have done. I do not have to give them gifts for them to know who I am,” Dr. Baah added.

Dr. Baah is contesting for the chairmanship slot with Freddie Blay and Stephen Ayesu Ntim
