Ghana Card: Ignore NDC Propaganda – PPP To Akufo-Addo

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has urged President Akufo-Addo to ignore criticisms and propaganda from the opposition National Democratic Congress as far as the 'Ghana card' is concerned.

Giving a solidarity message at the ongoing National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party, the PPP said “we are happy with the Ghana card…ignore the propaganda and make it happen”

Background

The issuance of the National Identification Card popularly referred to as the Ghana card has generated some criticisms especially from some Minority MPs.

The ID card which was part of the numerous promises by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is meant to be the primary ID card that Ghanaians will use to access all essential services in the country and for trips within the West African sub-region.

It is also expected to be the only valid ID which can be used when applying for a bank account, passport, telephone number, property acquisition, driver’s license and many more.

The opposition NDC are however not happy with NIA’s insistence on the use of either a birth certificate or a passport as proof of Ghanaian citizenship and qualification to obtain the Ghana Card.
