THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has tasked the board and management of National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to highly prioritise the prevention of fuel and gas stations disasters in the country.
He has admonished the leadership of NPA to always do thorough background checks of people and organizations that apply for license to operate petrol or gas filling stations.
He stated that it would go a long way to prevent disasters such as fire outbreaks at petrol and gas filling stations in order to preserve and protect lives and property.
He lamented how some innocent people either lose their lives or suffer life-threatening injuries due to disasters at petrol filling or gas stations; hence he tasked the NPA to work and prevent such disasters.
Otumfuo gave the wise counsel when the board and management of NPA, led by their CEO, Mr. Hassan S. Tampuli, paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday afternoon.
The NPA delegation was at the Asantehene’s palace ostensibly to brief Otumfuo about the Cylinder Recirculation Module (CRM), which would soon be introduced to make gas distribution easier and more comfortable.
The CRM would make it possible for people to visit gas filling stations with empty gas cylinders and instantly change them with filled ones to help ensure efficiency and also avert disasters.
The Asante King urged the NPA leadership to make sure that the CRM would not favour foreigners at the expense of Ghanaians in the sector.
Hassan S. Tampuli assured Otumfuo and Ghanaians that the local content law would strictly be adhered to so that local businesses would not suffer when the CRM is introduced.
He said the NPA board and management want the CRM to be introduced without blemish, for which reason they are soliciting the views of influential people in the country before its introduction.
