NPP Posters Saga: Omari Wadie Replies Shocked UK Conservative Party Rep.

The newly elected Third Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie, has justified the splashing of numerous posters and billboards to market aspirants who participated in the party’s national executives’ election held last Saturday.

A representative of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, John Hayward, had described as a waste of resources the numerous posters of aspirants during the election.

Posters and billboards had been splashed on every single wall, floor, kiosk, trees, street lights and even on abandoned vehicles parked on the shoulders of roads.

John Hayward questioned the rationale for such posters saying it does not show a judicial use of the country’s resources.

He said monies spent on such posters and banners could be used to improve the lives of Ghanaians. John Hayward made these comments in his solidarity message at the conference held at the Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern Region.

Mr. Wadie however defended the move on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily, saying it was not wrong for aspirants to put up many posters ahead of such a conference since it is the norm.

“From where he [John Hayward] sits, from where he is coming from, you cannot just go and be posting posters everywhere, but that is how we do it here. It is just like marketing…It is all part of getting your information across during elections. That is what is done in Ghana during funerals and elections. What you see as normal, someone sees as a taboo” Omari Wadie said.

About 6,000 members of the NPP gathered at the campus of the Koforidua Technical University to elect their national executives for the next four years.
