Open Library In Honour And Respect Of Late Prof. Mills - Group Tells Gov't

Tuesday, 24th July marks exactly 6 years since former President John Evans Atta Mills passed on whilst serving as the president of Ghana.

One of the legacies built in the memory of him, was the John Evans Atta Mills presidential library which was put up in the year 2016 in his home town Cape Coast, capital of the Central Region.

Ex-President John Dramani Mahama inaugurated it on July 24, 2016 to coincide with the anniversary of the late Prof. Mills.

The library is expected to improve the habit of reading among Ghanaian children in and around the country and also serve as a research facility for the University of Cape Coast, but the facility has still not been opened for public use.

Currently, the University of Cape Coast, which is responsible for the administration of the library has not been able to pay for the utility bills of the Library.

Today, marking the 6th year after his death, our correspondent, Sally Ngissah visited the place, but was welcomed with about 15 bill boards scattered around the library by some Youth of Cape Coast expressing their anger towards those responsible for the running of the facility; most especially the ruling government.

Some of the placards at the premises of the Atta Mills Library read; "Is the Library for late Prof J. E. A Mills?", "Served with distinction and dedication, so why?", "Did J. E. A Mills labour in vain?", "The library is critical to the development of the citizens!", "Open the library for honour and respect for the late Prof. J. E. A Mills!".
