Over 140 Homes At Shama Washed Away By Tidal Waves

Over 140 houses at Anlo Beach, a coastal community in the Shama District of the Western Region have been washed away by tidal waves.

The residents, who are predominately fishermen, say they are unable to go fishing as their landing shores have also been eroded by the waves. They thus want to be relocated.

There are over five thousand inhabitants of Shama Anlo-Beach who are fishermen and fishmongers. As a result of the life-threatening erosion triggered by tidal waves, many residents have lost their homes to the sea.

In April 2018, several households at Fuveme in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region were displaced after strong tidal waves hit the coastline.

The residents were rendered homeless with women and children greatly affected.

In 2017, Blekusu, Horve Havedzi, Dzita, Whuti, Srogboe and Anyanui were notably badly affected by the rising tides.
