The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev. Titus Kofi Awotwi Pratt, has advised members of the church not to indulge in any form of malfeasance or corrupt practices that will bring disgrace to them, their families and the church.

He described the prevailing situation where people put in positions of trust in the country were accused of some form of financial malfeasance or another as unfortunate, stressing that Christians should abstain from such untoward behaviours.

 According to him, “we are all aware of the accusations and counter-accusations of people in authority of financial malfeasance all over the country. Christians, and for that matter, members of the Methodist Church Ghana, should not be part of it because that practice is tantamount to greed and selfishness. Methodists are disciplined and we must exhibit that everywhere we find ourselves”.

The Bishop further urged that “Christians should practise the good deeds the Bible preaches about and stay away from criminal activities in society in order not to bring shame onto themselves and Christendom”.

Event

Most Rev. Pratt gave the advice in a sermon during the dedication of the Wesley Methodist Church at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

He said people appointed to serve should always exhibit good examples by being truthful, patriotic and accountable.

Using Mark Gospel 11:17, the bishop said the dedication of the chapel was not enough, but how the members of the church would rededicate their lives to serving Christ and be an example to society was what was necessary.

He stated that some churches had been turned into dens of thieves and urged ministers of the Methodist Church to preach only the truth, adding that a pastor or minister of the gospel should be a person who exuded confidence, was able to preach the word of God and above all, nurture and protect people spiritually.

‘’To make the Akosombo Methodist Church attractive to win new members to Christ depends to a large extent on how the members conduct themselves,” the bishop emphasised.
Most Rev. Awotwi Pratt added that Christians who frequented the chapel to listen to sermons should live exemplary lives.

Appreciation

The Superintendent Minister in charge of the Akosombo Wesley Methodist Church, Very Rev. Moses K. Aidoo, was grateful to members of the church and the entire Akosombo community for their commitment and dedication towards the building of the chapel.

He said the unity and peace with which they worked to ensure the successful execution of the project was worthy of commendation.

Present at the function were the Lay President of the Methodist Church Ghana, Mr Bernard Clement Kwasi Botwe; the Administrative Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, and the Bishop of the Somanya Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Rt Rev. Alfred Nii Okai Aryeetey, among others.
