Political Hooliganism....Sefa Kayi Slams NPP Leadership

Renowned broadcaster and GJA Journalist of the year, Kwame Sefa Kayi has descended heavily on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the recent attack on personnel at the Tamale Teaching Hospital by a group of young men believed to be part of Kandahar Boys, a group affiliated to the ruling party.

His comments comes on the back of the invasion of the facility by the vigilante group which has led to a strike action declared by the health workers.

The workers say they no longer feel safe in the hospital after the Monday incident which saw the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital Dr David Akolbila walked out of his office by members of the vigilante group.

The group accused the hospital CEO of corruption and mismanagement but provided no evidence of same.

With impunity, the men in mufti walked into the offices of Dr David Akolbila, walked him and his staff out and locked the offices.

A video which captured the incident has since gone viral on social media.

Police in the Northern Region Capital, Tamale, initially arrested four suspects but failed to charge them for the offence, saying they are unable to establish any evidence that the four took part in the forced entry into the CEO's office.

Although TTH authorities were called in to identify the suspects and establish that they were part of the thugs that besieged the CEO’s office, they could not do so, reports indicated.

Speaking to the issue during a panel discusson on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' Kwami Sefa Kayi, the host, said such act should not be countenanced in the country.

He has also bemoaned the attitude of some of the leaders in the NPP who stand in the way of the police in the discharge of their duties.

"When this happened for the first time in Kumasi; if they were given three years jail term; these forms of behaviour would have stopped. When you talk to these politicians they don’t listen especially when they are in power. This is about the third time it is happening. NPP leaders are looking on doing nothing because they afraid of being voted against. Sometimes you need to sacrifice the small for the larger; it’s so annoying. Who told them that they can determine who can be a doctor or who can’t; Nonsense. I am surprised eighteen months after being in government this is still happening. What is the meaning of this nonsense?" Sefa Kayi fumed.

Meanwhile, the Kandahar Boys have denied any involvement in the attack on the TTH CEO.

Baba Mohammed told DAILY GUIDE that Kandahar Boys played no part in the attack, indicating that the group had issued a statement to disassociate itself from the attack.
