The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) recouped GH¢483,449.28 in the second quarter of 2018 from customers who undertook illegal connections in the Central Region.

The Regional Revenue Protection Manager, Kow Ampah, told BUSINESS GUIDE that the exercise formed part of efforts by ECG to reduce illegal connections in the country to the barest minimum.

Mr Ampah further explained that during the period, a total of 4,678 meters were evaluated in the Kasoa North and South Districts.

It discovered that 202 residential and 78 commercial customers were engaged in meter tampering, unauthorized service connections, meter bypass, among others.

“The company recovered 212,337kWh of energy during the period, and this forms part of steps to reduce system losses,” he said.

The Regional General Manager of ECG, Dr Kwabena Adomah, on his part, also hinted that the ECG would prosecute customers who engage in illegal activities.

He warned customers to desist from transferring meters without the permission of ECG because of its adverse impact on the company.
