Court Orders Reinstatement Of Wa Polytechnic Rector

Rector of the Wa Polytechnic, Prof. Emmanuel Marfo Owusu, who was suspended over alleged procurement breaches, has been reinstated by the Wa High Court.

The court in its ruling said Tuesday held that the Polytechnic should have adequately investigated the Prof. Emmanuel Marfo Owusu before suspending him.

Prof. Marfo Owusu was suspended indefinitely by the Polytechnic Governing Board in April 2018 for allegedly refusing to attend an emergency meeting organized on April 4, 2018 in Accra.

He was also accused of some breaches in procurement processes, as well as some issues of financial malfeasance among others

Mr. Marfo Owusu, who denied receiving any invitation from the board to the said meeting at the time, resolved to take the matter to court to seek redress.

Ruling on the matter Tuesday, the court, presided over by his Lordship, Justice Kwasi Boakye stated that the board of the Polytechnic ordered for the reinstatement of Prof. Marfo Owusu.

The court said the rector should have been given an official invitation to the said meeting, prior to the date set for the meeting to take place.

It consequently awarded a cost of GHÈ» 5,000 against the Polytechnic for the unlawful suspension. Lawyer of the rector, Alfred Fia Yabuoa told journalists after the court ruling that they were satisfied.
