The Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Mr Mark Noonan, says the Phobians have no excuse for their 0-2 defeat to Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Kumasi last Sunday.
Hearts fell to their arch rivals in a pulsating game at the Baba Yara Stadium in the first of a two-leg challenge organised by the two clubs to keep their players active in wait for the resumption of the league.
Kotoko's Burkinabe import, Songne Yacouba, scored both goals in each half to give the Porcupine Warriors a well-deserved bragging rights over their arch rivals.
Unfortunately, the result came as a disappointment to many of the Phobian followers who left the stadium distraught.
Although the Rainbow club has another opportunity for revenge in the second leg, Noonan was unimpressed with last Sunday’s outcome and thought the team had no excuse for losing such an important game.
"No excuse; back to work", the MD tweeted and expressed the hope the team would work extra hard to get victory over Kotoko in the second leg.
Apart from this two-leg affair, both teams will clash again on October 28 in the maiden edition of the annual J.A Kufuor Cup in Kumasi to raise funds for the J.A Kufuor Foundation.
The MD's call was backed by some of the club's followers who saw his call as an honest admission of a team that needed to do more work.
Ahmed Ibrahim Sallah, for instance, replied to the tweet thus: "Exactly! They should reorganise themselves and come back. Samuel K. Kudjulma replied: "Well said, boss, get back to work”.
Abeiku Essel also stated: "That is the word of a true leader.”
However, others also blamed the referee for the defeat. Harry Elorm replied: "The referee brought his scoreline to the stadium.
Useless officiating, while Justice Obo Djan believed Hearts rather needed a strong technical handler.
