The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has postponed the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Notes (CTN) to October 15, 2018.
Consequently, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) suspended its planned protest against the implementation of the CTN
GUTA's decision followed an assurance given to it by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to resolve all issues related to the system before October 15, 2018.
The President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng, disclosed this at an event which was meant to announce the closure of shops in protest against the CTN.
A GRA notice announcing the postponement said: “Following consultations between government and key stakeholders, the Commissioner-General wishes to inform the trading public, importers, freight forwarders, shipping lines and other stakeholders that the effective date for the implementation of the Cargo Tracking Notes has been rescheduled to 15th October, 2018.”
Reasons for postponement
According to GRA, the postponement of the implementation date is to allow for more consultation and sensitisation of all stakeholders with the view to build and deepen understanding and consensus.
Address all concerns
This, it said, was to address all concerns raised by the trading community before the new date of the implementation of the CTN.
Govt absorbs cost of CTN permanently
The Commissioner-General of GRA, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, also announced that there would be no fees or charges applicable to importers or shippers in Ghana or elsewhere associated with the implementation of the CTN now or in the future.
GRA to refund CTN fees charged already
According to him, any fees charged to any importer so far in association with the implementation of the CTN would be reimbursed by GRA.
GRA withdraws ‘No CTN No Load’ policy
He stated that GRA would inform all shippers abroad that the ‘No CTN No Load’ policy is rescheduled until October 15.
"The Commissioner-General takes this opportunity to express his gratitude to all stakeholders for their co-operation," the notice added.
