Madam Mercy Dakogri, the Gender and Child protect officer at the Community Development Alliance (CDA), has called on parents to embrace and get closer to their children in order to know the challenges and difficulties facing them.
She asked parents to be more responsible in their actions in respect to good parenting and ensuring behavioural change among children towards their education.
“Looking at what the children are voicing out, I will advise parents to make their children as their friends to enable them know much about them.
Madam Dakogri parents should exercise restrain when dealing with their children and also be mindful of their choice of words when addressing them especially the girl child so that they are not exposed to men.
“Children are blessings from God and we [parents] must begin to position ourselves to see how we can draw the children closer to us,” she stated.
Madam Dakogri, who was addressing children and some parents at Charia, a suburb in the Wa municipality of the Upper West Region during this year’s National Children’s Day celebration on Friday, said the day was set aside to reflect and consider issues affecting children to ensure that the rights of children are protected.
The celebration which was jointly organized by the regional Department of Children (DOC) and the Community Development Alliance (CDA) was on the theme: “leave no Child behind in National Development”.
She however admonished the children not be respectful and make education their priority.
