Court remands three people for stealing schnapps bottle

The Apam Magistrate's Court, has remanded in police custody, three people who allegedly stole one empty schnapps bottle from a shrine in an ancestral forest at Gomoa Asempanyin, in the Central Region. Kobbina Atta Panyin, Kwesi Atta and Kwesi Mensah, pleaded guilty and would re-appear on January 11. The fourth accused person; Joseph Stephens, is at large. Prosecuting Police Inspector Isaac Adusei told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe, that the complainant in the case is a farmer at Gomoa Asempanyin. He said on December 18, 2009, the accused persons went round looking for empty schnapps bottles, which were on high demand. The prosecution said the second accused person Kwesi Atta, entered the shrine and stole the bottle. He said the accused persons were spotted by some of the inhabitants of the town and were chased. The prosecution said Atta Payin was arrested at nearby Gomoa Brofo, the following day while Kwesi Atta and Kwesi Mensah were arrested at Gomoa Afranse some days later.
