Mr Kofi Boakye, the former Principal of the School of Dispensing Optics at Oyoko in the Ashanti Region, who was interdicted over allegations of charging unapproved fees, has been reinstated.

   His reinstatement takes effect from Monday, September 03, 2018.

   Mr Gabriel Opoku, the Acting Principal of the School, has, therefore, been asked to handover to Mr Boakye with immediate effect.

   A letter dated August 07, 2018, signed by Nana Kwabena Adjei-Mensah, a Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, made available to the Ghana News Agency, said in August 2016, Mr Boakye, together with two other principals of some health training institutions, were asked to step aside over the said allegation.

   However, the Executive of the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI) intervened saying that though some of the principals may be culpable, there were no clear guidelines on approved fees in that sector.

   Additionally, evidence showed that the monies charged were used for developmental projects, the letter added.

   The Ministry of Health, upon consideration of the pleas of the COHHETI, took a decision to re-instate them.

   Mr Boakye’s reinstatement has received massive endorsement from all stakeholders including Madam Tina Mensah, the Member of Parliament for the area, traditional rulers of Oyoko, the Sekyere-Kumawu District Coordinating Director, the Director of Health Services and the Students’ Representative Council, among other stakeholders.
