Blame Ghanaians For Chinese Nationals’ Involvement In Galamsey – Former NPP MP

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament [MP] for Bantama, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, believes the country needs simple but strong commitment from political authorities, traditionalists, the citizenry [particularly residents in galamsey areas] and the youth, to achieve the much-needed results in the fight against Galamsey.

To him, Ghanaians should rather be held accountable for the actions of some Chinese nationals that lead to the degradation of the environment.

We must stop blaming Chinese nationals for engaging in illegal mining and blame ourselves for showing them the way to mine in our country, because they cannot perform those unlawful acts without permission granted them

The former NPP MP, contributing to a panel discussion on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show, expressed his respect and affection for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament [MP] for Bia East constituency in the Western Region, Richard Acheampong.

I always admire the MP for Bia East, citizens of the constituency and their chiefs for holding on to their bold and vigilant agreements taken against illegal mining, which have protected their lands and other natural resources till date.”

“It is a good practice that I believe other political leaders must adopt to halt illegal mining,” he added.
