Free SHS Challenges Can't Outweigh It's Benefit - Nana Boakye

Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Henry Nana Boakye has said the challenges facing the free SHS policy cannot outweigh its benefits to the economy.

“Yes, the free SHS is facing problems as we speak and nobody doubts that, but it is for a period which will end as the policy grows,” he said.

According to him, the implementation of the free SHS is a costly programme that government is doing its best to sustain even though it will not physically generate any income in its short-term.

“I appreciate governments’ boldness with respect to the free SHS programme because it is a long-time investment on human development,” he added.

In a panel discussion segment on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, the National Youth Organizer of the ruling NPP outlined that his party’s motive s to continue to build school infrastructure as we move ahead than waiting to build them before implementing the free SHS policy.

“We refuse to think like the NDC’s, whose motive is for students to stay at home until we finish building schools that can run free SHS,” he said on UTV.
