Colonel Wonje Takes Over Command of Operation Vanguard

Colonel Jackson Wonje has taken over command of the joint Military and Police Anti-illegal mining task force dubbed ‘Operation Vanguard’, from Colonel Michael Amoah Ayisi on Thursday, 6 September 2018 at a short ceremony held at the joint task force headquarters in Obuasi.

The out-going commander Colonel Amoah Ayisi inspected a quarter guard comprising Vanguard troops and handed the Baton of Command to his successor signifying the transfer of authority.

The ceremony was overseen by the Command Operations Officer of the Central Command Headquarters of the Ghana Army, Colonel Yusif Yahuza on behalf of the General Officer Commanding Central Command.

In his farewell address, Colonel Amoah Ayisi commended all those who stood by him and prayed for him throughout his tenure.

He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor and indicated that this operation cannot fail because of the experience Ghanaian military and police personnel have gained from taking part in external peace support operations.

He pledged to do everything within his power to assist his successor to succeed in fulfilling the mission of Vanguard.

In his response, Colonel Wonje thanked God for his mercies and congratulated the outgoing for his enormous contributions chalked towards the successes of the Operation.

He started that he plans to work with the principles and rules of the Operation and would expect the same level of corporation given to Colonel Ayisi from the troops and stakeholders.

Colonel Amoah Ayisi took over command of Operation Vanguard from Colonel Willie Agyapong last December and he returns to the General Headquarters Joint Operations of the Ghana Armed Forces.
