EDITORIAL: Mills, Watch These Things

We at The Republic see President Mills being pushed into a trap; a trap that once captured and consumed Obed Asamoah and turned him into a political spent force overnight. When Obed embarked on the unholy enterprise of trying to turn NDC members against Rawlings, the anti-Rawlings media goaded him on. Hell nearly broke loose when Obed beat Alhaji Mahama Iddrissu to it at congress because Rawlings threw his weight behind the Alhaji. The anti-Rawlings media hailed it as a defeat of Rawlings, Obed was virtually crowned Emperor. For, to them, he had defeated Rawlings. Buoyed by the thumbs-up he was receiving, Obed went all out against whatever Rawlings represented in the NDC until he went into political oblivion. Those who goaded him on would today not waste even a quarter of their page on him. Sadly, a similar scenario is being played out today. President Mills is being pitted against Rawlings by the same anti-Rawlings media. Suddenly, we are seeing front page stories alleging that Rawlings boys are being thrashed by Mills men. They are pitting Mills against Rawlings. They want Mills to go the way Obed went. We pray that Mills would not allow himself to be used and dumped as was done to Obed. In this vein, we call on his to come out and publicly distance himself from his so called camp before he is led down the path of ignominy. We also call on President Mills to move quickly to bridge the communication gap between him and Rawlings. Finally, we urge President Mills not to listen to those who are telling him that he no longer needs Rawlings. The former President alone accounts for at least fifty percent votes in the NDC. If the NPP were to have him on their side, the NDC would never taste political power. A word to the wise is enough.
