Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Wednesday, encouraged investors to take advantage of the country’s conducive environment for business saying, “Ghana is the best place to invest in Africa”.

She said the country had all the ‘ingredients’ to do business and urged foreign investors to abide by the rules and regulations to enjoy their stay and ensure peaceful coexistence.

Madam Dapaah said this when Mr Birender Singh Yadav, the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, called on her, in Accra, to invite her to the 150th Anniversary Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi, in India, on October 2.

Mahatma Gandhi was the leader of India's non-violent independence movement against British Rule and an advocate for the civil rights of Indians. He also inspired similar campaigns across the world.

Madam Dapaah welcomed the collaboration with the India Community in the country, and pledged to continue the relationship for mutual benefits.

She expressed readiness to participate in the celebration, explaining that the event would create effective synergies for both countries to share ideas on national issues, especially in area of sanitation and water.

She  said as an India business delegation intended to set up a solar pump for water there should be technology transfer and capacity building for the Ghanaian side  so that they would not perpetually  rely on their Indian counterparts for technical support.

The Minister explained that the move would enable Ghanaians to have hands-on experience and be equipped with the technology know-how to address the challenges that may be associated with running Indian technologies.

She said the Ministry had been collaborating with Non-Governmental Organisations to provide various forms of drinking water in the rural areas, such as stand-alone boreholes and mechanized systems.

Madam Dapaah said as of 2017 water projects, such as the Wa, Essakyir, Akim Oda and Winneba Water Projects had been completed, while 1,000 boreholes were drilled.

A number of Cabinet Memoranda on funding to support the improvement of water supply across the country had been prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Finance towards the execution of the projects including those in Yendi, Damongo, Tamale, Sekondi-Takoradi, Sunyani, Dorma-Ahenkro, Essiama, Begoro-Fanteakwa and Kpong Phase II.

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, for his part, said the idea behind the series of events was to spread the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi to the masses, especially the concept of communal harmony.

Mr Yadav said the programme would be followed by academic events like lecture series and symposiums on topics related to the philosophies practised by Mahatma Gandhi.

College students from educational institutions across the globe and academics would be encouraged to participate in the programmes.

“There will be drama and short film competitions on the themes of the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi,” he added.
