The Vice President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Nangolo Mbumba has received a delegation of the Ghana-Namibia Friendship Association (G-NFA).
The delegation, led by Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah, MOV, immediate past High Commissioner of Ghana to Namibia, who is also the chairperson of the Association, was in Windhoek to interact with a number of institutions and individuals on the Association’s planned projects and programmes.
The other member, Isaac Kingsford Dsane of Hype UP (Ghana), interim organiser of the Association. Dr. Mbumba expressed delight at the formation of the Association and pledged his support.
He spoke enthusiastically about his love for Ghana, declaring that “I am a Ghanaian.” The Association presented him with a bound copy of its constitution and invited him to be a patron, which he accepted.
The Association, formed late last year to “create a community between the peoples of the two countries and to impart members with fond memories that will last a lifetime.”
As a not-for-profit organization, it aims to foster people-to-people relations by complementing the efforts of the two Governments in promoting cultural, commercial, technical and educational exchanges and in addition, “promote friendships between traditional leaders, students, scholars, engineers, scientists, sports people and actors in the many sectors of human endeavour.”
In Windhoek, the delegation held meetings with Air Namibia, which recently resumed flights to Ghana, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and individual stakeholders.
There is a small but vibrant Ghanaian Community in Namibia made up mostly of professionals. The delegation has since returned home.
