There is uneasy calm at Abura-Dunkwa in the Central Region, as the youth have gone on rampage, burning down five houses in protest against the gruesome murder of a security guard in the area.
The security guard, who has only been identified as Ato, was murdered by unknown assailants believed to be foreigners, and the incident has infuriated the youth of the area.
The police told the youth that they had mounted a manhunt for the perpetrators but they were not convinced and decided to torch the five houses in the Zongo area.
They believe the houses belong to the killers of the security man.
There is heavy security presence in the area, as the police are taking steps to maintain peace and order to the area.
The police have begun listening to various eyewitnesses and those with information on the gruesome murder.
The police have also met with the family of the deceased.
The incident happened just about a fortnight ago after the area had been thrown into a state of mourning following the gruesome murder of the chief linguist, Okyeame Kwadjo Mensah and his wife.
The perpetrators of that heinous crime are yet to be identified, as the security agencies continue to search for the killers.
The wife of the deceased security man narrated that the husband, prior to his death, had a misunderstanding with some foreigners – ‘Zabramma’ persons.
According to some residents of the area, the deceased went to the house of the ‘Zabramma’ persons with a machete apparently to confront them but his dead body was later found in front of the house and was taken to the regional hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Central Regional Crime Officer, ASP Augustine Arnyara, told the media that the police had calm the tempers of agitated youth.
He pleaded with the youth to stop burning down houses as that has the tendency of causing more harm than good.
ASP Augustine Arnyara appealed to the youth to give the police information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and their subsequent prosecution.
He added that security in the area would be beefed up to ensure that lives and property are protected.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Felicia Aban Hagan, also appealed to the youth not to take the law into their hands.
She urged them to allow the police to conduct their investigations and bring the perpetrators to book.
