Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has cautioned the Ministry of Communications and the government to stop upholding the interest of foreign companies over indigenous ones.

Addressing issues regarding the contract between the Government of Ghana and Chinese Communications giant, StarTimes; Mr. Pratt opined that the government should take critical look at the treatment meted out to local businesses in the issuance of contracts and other development-related matters.

The government is said to have contracted StarTimes Communication Network Technology of China in the migration of analogue to digital terrestrial television.

Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has expressed concerns over the deal stating it will conflict with a roadmap for Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) migration.

But according to a statement by the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the DTT Platform would be managed as a commercial entity incorporated as the Central Digital Transmission Company Limited (CDTCL) and governed by a board with representatives from GBC, GIBA and other industry and content producers.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. warned the government saying "we have to be careful with these Chinese things, especially when Ghanaians have the capacity to do things. It won’t augur well for us if we don’t take care. Beware!"
