Catholic Bishop urges hard work and honesty

The Catholic Bishop of Obuasi, Right Reverend Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, has appealed to Ghanaians to accept to live by the values of honesty, hard work and love. He said it was by doing this that the nation would be assured of smooth and peaceful socio-economic and political progress. Bishop Anokye was celebrating a Holy Mass at Manso-Atwere during a pastoral visit to the Manso-Nkwanta Parish. He said as a people it was important they became "each other's keeper." He appealed to parents to cut down on frivolous spending and invest more in the education of their children. The Bishop advised school children to be serious with their studies and that they bore some responsibility for their education. He said the government, missions, community and parents had built the structures and provided logistics for academic work and it was up to the children to take advantage of them. The Parish Priest, Reverend Father John Dwoben-Adusei, appealed to Christians to provide leadership to heal the nation of social ills. Nana Owusu Antwi II, Krontihene of Manso-Atwere, praised the Catholic Church for its' tremendous contribution to education, health and sanitation in the area. He appealed to the Church to establish a vocational training institution at Manso-Atwere to help the unemployed youth in the area acquire skills to become economically self-supporting. More than 2,000 Catholic and non-Catholics attended the mass.
