I Will Defeat Asiedu Nketiah Eshun

An aspiring General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kweku Eshun says he will cause a major upset by defeating the incumbent, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah in the forthcoming National Delegates Conference of the party. He said his tour to the various regions and constituents had given him the assurance that the rank and file of the party were yearning for a change in the leadership of the party. The delegates will demonstrate their resolve by voting for m to bring on board fresh ideas to ensure that the welfare of the foot soldiers are catered for, he told Daily Graphic. The congress slated for Tamale this weekend, will be the biggest gathering of the party after it won the 2008 general election. It will be a test for the current national executive of the party, under whose tenure the NDC recaptured power after eight years in opposition. According to Mr Eshun, who was the partys candidate for the Okaikoi North seat in the 2008 elections, the current national executive had abandoned party faithful at the grassroot, cadres and women who fought for the comeback of the NDC. Twelve months after winning power, the rank and file of the party have become disillusioned because instead of the executive working to cater for their interest, they are only interested in wallowing in power, he said. The aspirant said if given the nod, he would work hard together with other members of the executive to ensure that members of the party get their fair share of the national cake, as compensation for their continued loyalty to the party. He said the party needed to ensure that job opportunities were created for its members to avoid the current disillusionment among its rank and file. Mr Eshun promised to ensure that the lower structures of the party became an integral part in the decision-making process. He accused the currently national executive for abandoning the party faithful after the 2008 election.
