Constitution Review Should Consider Full Integration Of Traditional Institutions

In order to ensure long term development of the country, government has been urged to ensure that the proposed constitution review comes out with clear mechanisms to allow full integration of traditional institutions into the countrys development process. Mr. Bernard Guri, Executive Director of the Center for Indigenous Knowledge and Organizational Development (CIKOD), gave the advice in an interview with Peace FM on the proposed review of the 1992 constitution. He observed that the countrys traditional institutions have not been fully tapped to accelerate development over the past years. Whilst commending the former President John Agyekum Kufuor for creating the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr Guri noted that the roles of the Ministry and that of the National House of Chiefs have not been clearly defined and called for immediate steps to be taken to address this problem. Mr. Guri also advocated adequate resources for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and culture and the National House of Chiefs to enable them function effectively.
