Foreign Affairs Minister Bids Farewell To FAO Assistant Director
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has expressed appreciation for the FAO’s support for the government of Ghana’s shared growth and development agenda in the Agricultural sector.
The initiative aims at accelerating agricultural modernization, while making the sector attractive for the youth, enhancing sustainable natural resource management as well as improving private sector competitiveness.
Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey made the comment on Wednesday October 17, 2018, when she bid farewell to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Africa in-charge of Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Mr Bukar Tijani.
The Hon. Minister acknowledged the co-operation between Ghana and the FAO and in particular Mr Tijani’s contributions to the growth of the organisation in Ghana through various interventions which includes the organization’s role in promoting government’s flagship programme of “Planting for food and jobs”.
In his farewell message, Mr Bukar Tijani commended Ghana and government’s commitment to ensuring food security for its citizens
He applauded a ceremony in the Eastern Regional town of Nsawam to commemorate World Food Day on Tuesday October 16, demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to a world with zero hunger.
The outgoing Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Africa in-charge of Agriculture and Consumer Protection, assured of the FAO’S continued support for Ghana on all ongoing projects, including the government initiatives of 1 District 1 Factory, 1 District 1 Warehouse, 1 Village 1 Dam.
During his 5-year term, the Assistant Representative identified and developed 3 priority areas for collaboration between the FAO and the government of Ghana.
They include Food and nutrition security, Environment and sustainable natural resource management and the rural development and resident livelihoods programme under the Country Programme Framework (CPF) (2013-2016).
