The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has forwarded to the Ghana Police Service (GPS), video recordings of the incidents, that resulted in the abrupt end of the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Super Bantamweight title fight between Isaac Sackey and Wasiru Mohammed on October 13.
According to a press release, the video has been forwarded to the Police for the identification of all person who were involved in the invasion of the ring, attacks on the ring officials, brawls as well as destruction of properties amongst others.
The statement said, the move was part of efforts to bring the perpertrators to book,ensure safety at fight nights after the unfortunate crowd violence and to prevent the shameful act that tarnished the image of the sport in the near future.
According to a statement by the GBA, signed by Mr. Peter Zwennes, President of GBA, they have engaged all stakeholders including the Police and have outlined remedies to be taken to help deal with culprits.
The statement however blamed security lapses at the fight night on the promoters, but reiterated the need to involve the Military Police in efforts to enhance security.
"To beef up security at subsequent venues and the general consensus was that, henceforth, the Military Police whose presence has always ensured sanity should at all material times be deployed to avert the incidence of violence and chaos that transpired," the statement stated.
The Promoters of the bout were tasked to take care of damages to the properties at the fight night to restore the facility to its former status.
The GBA has also condemned the incident and assured boxing fans and the general public that on no account would their security be compromised, as they remain focused in protecting them at all material times.
