Contrary to media reports and speculations regarding factionalism within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President J. E. A Mills today rubbished reports of the existence of an Atta Mills bloc in the NDC and expounded that he is not a product of himself but a creation of the party. Addressing delegates at the NDC�s 8th National Delegates Congress, in Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital, on Saturday, January 16, under the theme "Fulfilling Better Ghana Agenda", President Mills pointed out that anyone claiming to be a member of an Atta Mills bloc is �wasting their time�. �Let us not give the Doomsday Prophets their due. Let us not allow the media to set an agenda for us�There is not and there should be no Atta Mills faction in NDC. Those who hold themselves out, if any, that they belong to an Atta Mills faction are wasting their time. Atta Mills is not a product of himself, Atta Mills is an entity created by the NDC,� he said. The NDC opened its 8th National Delegates Congress yesterday, Friday, January 15th. It is the foremost major gathering of the party since recapturing power from the New Patriotic Party in the December 2008 elections. In attendance are party bigwigs including President John Evans Atta Mills, Vice-president John Mahama, former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, Finance Minister, Kwabena Duffuor, Trade Minister, Hannah Tetteh, Deputy Finance Minister, Fiifi Kwetey, Minister of Lands and Forestry, Collins Dauda, among others. The former Law professor also reminded delegates that his team, not excluding himself, is only human and therefore fallible. He also admitted that the NDC has not performed to the satisfaction of every Ghanaian. �No-one is perfect, human beings are infallible. There�re some of us who have shortcomings including the President himself in various ways. And sometimes, we think that inward inspection�is the best way to resolve these problems.� �I�ll confess that we�ve not been able to please everybody, but we accept your criticisms in good faith because we�re sure that there will be a better tomorrow,� he assured the delegates. Earlier in his address, President Mills lightheartedly said that he was no longer going to use the name Atta, following two hilarious and thought-provoking narrations, by former President Rawlings about a mortuary attendant by that name. �On a lighter note, Mr. President, let me say that after listening to you and the stories you narrated, I�ve decided with immediate effect to drop Atta from my name,� he said in jest.
