The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested 13 suspected criminals engaged in stealing and cyber fraud.

     Two of the suspects, Frank Inyang Thomas, 40 years old, and Segun Mustapha 36-years old, both Nigerians, are said to be part of a syndicate that trail unsuspecting people who have withdrawn money from banks.

       Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Edward Johnson Akrofi-Oyirifi, Tema Regional Police Commander, briefing the media, said on October 26, 2018 at about 1100 hours, Police received complaint of stealing from a victim who had withdrawn cash amount of 14,000 from a bank at Tema Community One.

     The victim, he noted, kept the money in the car and drove to Francophone near the Ghana Water Company in Community One, where he parked and alighted to make some enquiries.

     He added that the victim returned shortly to find the driver's side door opened and the money stolen.

    Preliminary investigation from a Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera captured one of the suspects with the money, who was taken away by a get-away silver coloured Toyota corolla which registration number had been withheld by the Police.

     He stated that surveillance was mounted on the said car and its occupants and were spotted on November 02, 2018 at about 1100 hours at the Meridian Cluster of banks.

     A search conducted on the vehicle revealed several clothing and footwear and eight talismans.

     The suspects upon interrogation informed Police that they usually trail their victims from the banks till they parked their vehicles, after which they moved to open the car and steal.

     The Commander noted that the two, led Police to their residence at Abokobi  number two in Sakumono in the Tema West Municipality, where upon further investigations, the other 11 other Nigerian suspects were picked up for engaging in cyber fraud activities.

   The suspects whose age ranged between 21 and 32 years, told Police they operated from Tema and Accra.

       They would be transferred to the Police CID Headquarters for further investigations while the two would be arraigned before the courts.
