Madam Jennifer Yawa Dzeble, Principal Revenue Officer, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in charge of the Volta Regional Taskforce has commended traders in Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region for “high compliance” with the tax stamp policy.
“Distributors and retailers are very much aware of the tax stamps, its implementation and… rejecting goods that do not have the stamps. The compliance level is very high in Aflao and its environs", she noted.
Madam Dzeble said this when the Taskforce carried out an inspection exercise at Aflao to ensure compliance with the tax stamps policy.
She however noted that the influx of goods from across the border posed a great challenge to the full implementation of the policy in the Municipality and called for collective effort to deal with the situation.
Madam Dzeble said tax stamps were not only to check under declaration of revenue or raise revenue, but also to ensure that goods consumed by the public were of good quality and advised traders in other parts of the region to support implementation of the policy.
“Apart from the tax payer or the manufacturer accounting for the tax, it is also to check counterfeit products, goods that are not good for consumption. So it is not only to check revenue but also to check that whatever we are consuming in Ghana is good for us”, she said.
She cautioned that excisable products found on the market without the tax stamp would be confiscated and the trader prosecuted.
Madam Dzeble therefore entreated the traders to apply to the Authority for the stamp for free and affix on their products.
