Assorted unauthorised body enhancement cosmetic creams and drugs being sold to the unsuspecting public have been seized in Kumasi by the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA).

One person has also been arrested for selling some of the products at the Kumasi Central Market.

The products included drugs said to be used for the enlargement of the breasts, hips and buttocks as well as the penis. They have been labelled as breast lifting fast cream, soft curve booty hip cream, yodi cream and capsule, penis enlargement capsule, bazooka syrup and 3D hip up capsule.

Others were lady killer, viamax, black king kong, virgin cream, charm sex and max man. These products, according to the Ashanti Regional Directorate of FDA, have not been approved for sale to the public in the country.

Regional director of FDA, Nora Narkie Terlabie, at a news conference said preliminary investigations have revealed that the products are brought into Ghana from neighbouring countries including Nigeria.

“The labels of these products do not have any information as required by the Ghana Labelling Regulation(LI 1541), no country of origin, no list of active ingredients and no manufacturers address or contact details.

“It difficult to determine what chemicals are used to formulate these products. some of these chemicals may be harmful,” she noted.

Mrs. Terlabie warned the use of these products put a lot of pressure on one’s internal organs such as the liver and kidney and urged the public to avoid their use.

She said they have gathered information suggesting “most users [of the products] are young people in our secondary and tertiary institutions.”

Meanwhile she said the FDA is working assiduously together with the Police to identity the importers and peddlers of these products to bring them to book.

She advised the general public to buy medicines from approved identified outlets such as hospitals, pharmacies and Licensed chemical shops.

The director cautioned importers, manufacturers, retail proprietors and consumers to desist from patronizing unregistered products, unlabelled products, as well as products that are expired, especially as Christmas approaches.
