KUNST Saga: Management Failed Woefully; Treating University Students Like Kindergarten Pupils – Sammy Awuku

NPP National Organizer, Sammy Awuku has blamed management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the recent chaos in the school which resulted in the damage of private and public properties by some agitated students.

According to Sammy Awuku, it is wrong for the University administration to impose rules that infringe upon the rights of the students.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Awuku stressed that University authorities cannot absolve themselves because they intensified the problems confronting the students as a result bad decision-making.

"Government got involved in the KNUST saga...to restore peace and order. There is nowhere in today’s world you will tell a University student to sleep at 10 pm and will obey without retaliating…provided there is a group assignment and group work they have to do and here is the case the student has to sleep at 10 pm, it’s very frustrating…How do you treat students in modern day Ghana as if they are kindergarten students? It was also believed that the SRC has no access to the students' account be it faculty dues or department dues…It was centralized in the University account only. How do u run a modern day university like this?, he questioned.

"It frowns on democracy. It frowns on human right. You cannot also micro-manage the University as if they are kindergarten students", he stressed.

He urged the student body to be bold and express their grievances to the Committee set up to resolve the conflict.
