TWO MEMBERS of a hardened armed robbery ring, who have been terrorising and killing residents of Tema and its surrounding communities, are cooling off in the custody of the Tema Regional Police Command awaiting prosecution.
The two suspects, Dennis Boachie Yiadom alias Aso, 23, and Joseph Nartey Kumah alias Joe Boye, 26, were said to have embarked on a series of robberies in the metropolis, including the recent armed robbery at Top Up Pharmacy and the murder of a scrap dealer at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) traffic light in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area.
Addressing newsmen at Tema yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Edward Johnson Akrofi-Oyirifi, the Tema Regional Police Commander, explained that the Regional Command, per intelligence, tracked down the Top Up Pharmacy robbery incident which occurred at Tema Community 4, and other robberies, leading to the arrest of the two hardened criminals.
Suspect Yiadom, according to the Regional Commander, was arrested on November 16, 2018 at Eijsu in the Ashanti Region.
“The suspect and his accomplices masterminded robberies in Tema Community 4 and 6 recently after he snatched a blue-black Nissan Pathfinder from his victim at a gunpoint at Afienya. The vehicle has since been retrieved by the Ashaiman Police,” he indicated.
The second suspect, Joe Boye, was however, arrested in a swoop conducted by the Ashaiman Police on November 16, 2018, along the Tema Motorway where he was among some 24 suspected criminals picked up that day.
“He was wanted for dealing in hard drugs and his involvement in series of robberies being investigated by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit at the National Police Headquarters,” he mentioned.
DCOP Akrofi-Oyirifi stated that both suspects are assisting police in investigation after which they will put before court.
He disclosed that the command is working closely with the National Police Intelligence Unit at the Headquarters to track down suspect Dauda, the gang leader and other suspects involved in series of robberies committed with suspect Aso.
He continued that the Regional Investigation Department (CID) will conduct an identification parade on November 20, 2018 and has therefore appealed to the general public especially those who had fallen victim to robberies in Tema to partake in the exercise.
