NDC Has Not Been Fair To AndanisLate Ya-Nas Children

The Spokesperson for the children of the former Regent of Dagbon, the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani 11, is expressing dissatisfaction and disappointment at the NDC governments lack of action in arresting and prosecuting the killers of the late King and forty others. Yakubu Andani contends that more than a year after winning power, the Mills administration has been unable to provide any information on the death of their father despite various promises made to them during the 2008 electioneering campaign. The NDC promised us that if we give them our mandate, they would find the killers of Ya-Na Yakubu AndaniIt was a promise to the whole of Dagbon and GhanaThey told the whole world that they will use 6months to find the killers of our late father. But 13months in office as I speak now, nothing has been heard from the govt, he said. Speaking in an interview on PEACEFMs Kokrokoo, Mr. Andani also accused Members of Parliament in the region, who won their seats in the 2008 December polls, of riding to victory on the back of the Ya-Nas death, as having abandoned them. We cannot even find them, and when you call them to say high, they will not even pick up their phoneit is not easy getting them, he alleged. Yakubu Andani told PEACEFM that they believed in the NDC even though they were in opposition that the party will honour its word, but are now displeased that the NDC has reneged on its promise. I feel very disappointed in the government; we feel very bad and I dont know how to express myself. The government has not been fair to us, he added. The eldest son of the late King, Kampakuya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani, after his fathers death, was enstooled Regent of Dagbon. Ya-Na Yakubu Andani 11 was beheaded and about 40 of his supporters burnt to death, after fighting erupted between the Abudu and Andani clan in Yendi. The late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani 11, was the ruler of the Dagbon Kingdom from 1974 until his untimely death in March 2002. The burial of the late king finally took place on Monday 10th April, 2006. He was given a State burial in the Royal Mausoleum at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
