The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says the 'drone initiative' will help the Ghana Health Service in 'dealing with the deficit in the service.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at an annual health summit of the Health Ministry in Accra in April this year announced government’s preparedness to use the drone technology to distribute essential medical supplies.

Subsequently a $12 million contract was awarded under a sole source agreement to Zipline Company over a four year period.

However, the minority has described the contract as fraudulent and deceitful. According to them, the actual amount for the contract is $27million.

Cassiel Ato Forson, speaking on the side of the Minority, said government had purposed to buy a drone at a cost of $1 million each when it was selling at $100,000 and that the contract will gift Zipline over 600 percent profit.

Meanwhile, The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare denies any form of criminality in the deal.

According to him, the drone system is only to improve upon efficiency in the supply of drugs using technology.

But Kweku Baako during a panel discussion on Joy FM's newsfile programme, Saturday, said the minority has 'no case'

According to him, "this technology (drone) is clearly the most adoptable option"

"The position by Dr Nsiah makes more sense to me…I am convinced that the adoption of this technology, methodology will help us deal with issues affecting our health delivery…Ato Forson engaged in voodoo analysis…unless somebody brings evidence this thing (drone) is a fraud, I think Ghanaians should go for it. It will help deal with the deficit in the health service" he added.
