Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on Thursday supervised the destruction of a quantity of confiscated fake Sanyo coloured television (TV) sets at the Kpone Land Fill Site.
This followed a court order given a couple of months ago by the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court presided over by Mrs. Justice Barbara Ackah-Yensu.
Briefing newsmen at the site, Mr. John Bisiw, local manager of Sanyo Gulf, a division of Sanyo International, said the monitoring and research team of the local branch of the company sighted some branded Sanyo TV sets at the Accra Central Business District near the Opera Square.
Mr. Bisiw said being suspicious that the goods were fake, the team bought samples of the TVs, which were later inspected by the company�s team of factory experts from Japan, Indonesia, and Dubai.
He said the experts released that the goods were fake, and in order to protect the quality image of Sanyo products, referred the matter to their legal firm in Britain, which through their Ghanaian legal representative, obtained the court order on November 20, 2009.
Mr. Bisiw cautioned economic saboteurs to refrain from acts of illegally branding and infringing the copyright law.
He pledged Sanyo�s commitment to protecting its brand name, as well as the interest of its customers.
Among those present at the Land Fill site to witness the destruction exercise were Mr. Hope Segbefia, Tema Metropolitan Assembly�s Supervisor of the Site, and Mr. Emmanuel Quagraine, Bailiff from the Court.
