The Forestry Commission intends to recruit additional Forest Range Managers to support operations and monitoring activities in the districts, especially where there is heavy workload.

Mr Kwaku Asoma-Cheremeh, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, says the Ministry was operating with limited logistics.

Answering questions related to the Commission, in Parliament, the Minister said the Forestry Commission has 10 Regional Offices across the country, but the Commission’s district offices are however not coterminous with the Political Districts.

Hence in some cases, a District Forestry Officer manages more than five political districts.

Mr Asoma-Cheremeh’s answer was in response to a question from Dr Clement Apaak, MP for Builsa South Constituency, on when a District Forestry Officer will be posted to Builsa South.

The Minister said there was a District Forestry Office at Navrongo, which oversees forest management activities and operations in the Builsa, Builsa North, Kassena Nankana Municipal and Kaassena Nankana West Political districts.

In addition, there is a Forest Range Manager in Sandema, who assists the District and Assistant District Managers at Navrongo in carrying our forest activities in the four political districts.

“This means that the Builsa South currently has forestry officers already working in the Districts.
