Ghana and Morocco are to deepen their bilateral relations in the area of education. To this end, the two countries will exchange students and teachers to promote the use of French as the second language in Ghana.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh made this known when the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ghana, H.E. Mohammed Farahat, paid a courtesy call on him at his offices today.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh noted that since Ghana had joined the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF), it was imperative that French was widely taught and learnt in the country, hence the need for enhanced partnership with sister countries such as Morocco, where French is an official language alongside Arabic.

The Minister stated that education was an asset; hence the need to invest more in education to ensure well educated citizens who will support the economic growth and development of the country.

H.E. Mohammed Farahat expressed his country’s willingness to sustain the gains made in the educational sector, especially the round of scholarships offered Ghanaians to study in Morocco. He indicated that the Moroccan system also stood to benefit from Ghana, adding that highly trained and skilled persons were needed to ensure the progress of countries.

He used the occasion to officially invite the Hon. Minister to the First African Forum on Vocational Training, under the theme “Governance of vocational training systems for employability and competitiveness in Africa”, scheduled for the 21st -22nd December, 2018 in Morocco, adding that will be an opportunity to examine the issues and common challenges related to the governance of vocational training in Africa and its impact on the valuation of human capital.
