#Presidential Encounter: Gov't To Set Cyber Academy & Security Center

The Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has indicated that the Government of Ghana will set up a Cyber Academy and Cyber Security Center this year to address cyber issues in the country.

Addressing the press at the Presidential Encounter With The Media at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 19, 2018; the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful noted that her outfit is putting pragmatic measures in place to ensure hygienic cyber practices.

According to her, the Ministry wants to channel the energies of the youth and technology genuises into productive use to enhance the economy, hence the need for the establishment of the Cyber Academy and the Cyber Security Center.

She further noted that the Ministry has rolled out other social intervention programmes to raise awareness and sensitize Ghanaians about the dangers of cyber fraud and other related issues.

"We do need to channel the energies of those who tech-savvy into more productive uses of those energies and we can do that...All of us need to know how to navigate the web and cyber space in a more secure and safe manner".

The two projects, she disclosed, will set up at the Government Secretarial School.

"Ghana isn't doing too badly in the ranks of those who have prioritized cyber security as part of building their digital economies", she stated.
