A 43 year old civil servant who is accused of slashing his wife's face with a cutlass at Teshie has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
Reuben Dua charged with causing harm and offensive conduct, pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mrs Ruby Naa Adjeley Quaison admitted Dua to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000.00 with two sureties one to be justified.
The court further ordered sureties to provide valid photo Identity Cards.
The court ordered the case investigator to verify the occupation and residential addresses of the sureties as well.
The matter has been adjourned to January 8, next year.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo said the complainant Patricia Tetteh is the wife of Dua and that the complainant and the accused reside in the same house at Teshie have been having marital issues.
Prosecution said based on their marital issues, the complainant demanded from the accused money so she could relocate.
She said after receiving GH¢2,400.00 from the accused person, the complainant refused to leave her husband’s house. On November 12, this year, Dua returned from work and saw that their room had not been swept.
Prosecution said this provoked Dua and he packed the complainant’s belongings outside and he warned her not to bring them into the room again.
Prosecution said the complainant went to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Nungua to lodge a complaint
She said the personnel of DOVVSU and complainant came to the house of the accused but he was not in the house.
The Police then packed the complainant’s belonging back into the accused room.
Prosecution said when the accused returned and saw the complainant sleeping, he got angry, pulled a cutlass and slashed the complainant’s face.
She said the complainant rushed to DOVVSU again with the cutlass and lodged another complaint. A police medical report form was issued to the complainant.
