The Asante Akim North District Directorate of Health Services has received medical supplies worth US$10,000.00 and quantities of bicycles to aid health care delivery in the area.

The items, which included thermometers, surgical gloves, syringes, intravenous connectors, forceps, delivery beds, infusion controllers and assorted drugs, were gift from the Sekyere East Cluster Office of the World Vision International in Ghana (WVI-G).

Mr. Joseph Kwogyenga, the Cluster Manager speaking at the presentation ceremony, said it was part of WVI-G’s health intervention and strategy to enhance access to improve and quality health care as well as maternal and child health care delivery in the rural communities.

He said WVI-G, as an international Christian NGO had the mandate to improve the lives of all children, especially the most vulnerable within families and communities and aid their access to primary health care, especially maternal and child health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS through various interventions.

Mr. Kwogyenga said among the interventions implemented by the WVI-Ghana in the District were the Mother to Mother Support Group (MTMSG), Savings for Transformation (S4T) and the Community Health Committees, among others.

Mr. Kwogyenga added that the organization has been supporting the District Health Directorate to provide training for health professionals on how to counsel breastfeeding mothers to continue to breastfeed their babies.

The training also included building the capacities of adolescents on value-based life-skills and sexual reproductive health, as well as other health intervention programmes, which were all targeted at improving the health needs of the people in the area.

He urged community members to cooperate and collaborate with the health directorate in all community health sensitization programmes in order to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in the area.

Mr. Roland Ronald Miah, the District Health Director commended WVI-Ghana for the continuous support to meet the health needs of the people, especially in maternal and child health.

He urged continuous support from WVI-Ghana, the government and other developmental partners to strengthen and improve health care service delivery in the rural communities.

Mr. Patrick Adams, the Health Project Officer of the Sekyere East Cluster of WVI-G, urged the Directorate to initiate good maintenance and sustainability plans to prolong the lifespan and usage of the medical equipment received.

He said the bicycles were to facilitate the work of the community health volunteers to make positive impact on the maternal, child and general health care in the District.
