Assailant Dies By Own Knife

An Assailant who assaulted a 42-year-old mason twice was unlucky for the third time when his victim overpowered and stabbed him with his own deadly weapon — a knife.

According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the deceased, Mohammed Tijani, had assaulted the suspect, Francis Appiah, on December 29, 2018.

Briefing

The Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Joseph Benefo Darkwah, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said the suspect reported the case to the Community Eight police station where he was issued a medical form to go to the hospital for treatment.

According to the police, last Wednesday, Tijani and five others attacked Appiah again and allegedly hit his head with a stone.
Mr Darkwah said the suspect went back to the police and reported the matter, adding that the police again issued him with a medical form.

Out of luck

He indicated that efforts to arrest the deceased proved futile as he kept avoiding the police.

According to the police, last Thursday at about 8:30 a.m., the deceased who was holding a knife, allegedly attacked the suspect again. However, the suspect overpowered him, took the knife and stabbed the deceased.

He said the suspect was currently in custody, while investigations were going on.

The body had been kept at the Tema General Hospital for preservation and autopsy, Mr Darkwah said.
