National Cathedral: We’ve Not Received Any Donation From Gay Community – Executive Director

The National Cathedral Secretariat has described as false a news item making rounds that the gay community in Ghana has donated to the cause of the project.

The reports said the community through its UK counterpart, UK LGBT Association, donated $25 million to support the construction of the national cathedral of Ghana.

“This news item, which does not provide the date, nor the recipient, of the said donation, is a concoction of the fictitious author,” a statement issued by the Executive Director, Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah, said.

It stressed that the Secretariat has not received any such donation from “the so-called ‘Gay Community in Ghana”.

It further indicated that the President, in launching the fundraising on December 28, 2018, called for a ‘coalition of the willing’ to arise and build the cathedral to the glory of God.

The coalition, the statement said, does not have room for groups, interests and individuals whose motivation is to make a donation to draw attention to themselves and their issues.

“Rather, the coalition will be united only in their support of the President’s vision of the National Cathedral as a national gesture of thanksgiving, and a sacred national infrastructure.

“We urge the general public to disregard this false publication, and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
