Abrefa delighted about SWAG nomination

Derek Abrefa of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has been nominated as the best male table tennis player in the upcoming 44th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) annual awards.

The awards gala, slated later in the year, would see the Ghanaian top seed, decorated with the best player accolade with his fellow national team player, Celia Baah Danso, also picking up the best female table tennis player award.

Abrefa, who had remarkable 2018 had a stellar outing, at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and was recently adjudged the Most Valuable Player in Table Tennis by the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).

In an interview with the GNA Sports, Abrefa said, " I thank God for receiving yet another nomination, I'm motivated to putting in more effort because i get to know that, whatever we are doing is being realized and appreciated,'' he said.

He added that, his technical team have been of immense support in his endeavours as well as the media who tell the news about his exploits for Ghana both locally and internationally.

Abrefa is currently ranked ninth on the Africa rankings and 272th in the world.

This year's awards gala would see 40th thriving sports personalities honoured for their impact on Ghana's sports both on the local and international front.
