Dr. Addison Is More of a Politician Than Governor of BoG - Adongo

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central in the Upper East Region, Isaac Adongo has claimed that the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison is doing politics with his action taken against the Heritage Bank and GN Bank.

According to him, the issue associated with the Heritage Bank is shameful as it has become the norm of Bank of Ghana to revoke the licenses of banks if the owners are taken to court as thieves.

“ . . Whether it is true or not that they are thieves or whether they are guilty or not guilty, to Bank of Ghana, the fact that you are in court as a bank owner, you are disqualified to hold any banking property,” he chided.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Hon. Adongo wondered “if the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison works with the court to know that the owner of Heritage Bank is guilty. Has the judge told Addison that the court is going to find the owner of the bank guilty before he revoked the license?”

He said that even though the Heritage Bank has no issue with the minimum capital requirement, Dr. Addison called the Directors of the Bank to merge with Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) in order to meet the requirement.

He stressed that the Bank of Ghana took the decision to revoke the license of Heritage Bank when "the bank decided to do due diligence of the financial situation of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB)."

"The truth is that our banking sector is scandalised and no one can tell if Addison is a Governor or a Presidential Candidate or MP. Nobody can tell the capacity under which Addison speaks. He is politicising everything he does at the Bank of Ghana and he better stop that behaviour because it won’t help him,” he warned.
